Infonomics Principal Consultant is its founding Director, Mark Toomey.
Mark has practiced in the field of IT delivery, planning and management for 27 years, and has extensive experience of assessing and resolving IT initiatives that have gone wrong. Since 2000, he has focused primarily on the support and development of board and executive management governance of information technology and associated business change activities.
Since 1985 with DMR (now DMR Consulting), and subsequently as an independent consultant, Mark has worked at senior management and executive levels in many Australian and international organisations, providing advice, devising innovative solutions to business problems and managing complex projects. Some notable examples include:
National Australia Bank -Chief IT Architect for the Asia Pacific region;
Telstra - Project Director for a critical Year2000 problem;
UK National Eftpos Scheme - Managed several aspects of commissioning including the interbank settlement process and controls;
Bank of New Zealand - Consolidation of fragmented IT operations;
Ansett Airlines - Introduction of “up to the minute” management information capabilities;
New Zealand Bankers’ Assoc. - Conceptual development of “Assured Value Payments System”.
In 2000, Mark became a partner in BCT Governance (previously The Experience Network), with a goal of providing focused advice and support to senior executives and directors. Among his clients since then have been directors and chairmen of Medibank Private, JBWere and the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria.
Mark is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and an Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management.
He is co-author of “The Director’s IT Compass” – a guidebook for executives and directors who have no technology background. He has been an occasional author and presenter on various topics in the application and governance of information technology in business.
He recently published an article entitled “Practical IT Governance – Empowering Executives and Directors” in “Software”, the journal of Software Engineering Australia. This article marks the first publication of “The Business Change and Technology Governance Lens”, a framework designed to give directors better understanding of what is happening in their organisations.
